With that in mind, A Guide to Clinical Assessment and Professional Report Writing in Speech-Language Pathology, Second Edition combines the latest assessment protocols and diagnostic techniques with vital diagnostic report writing tools into a single definitive guide. Cyndi Stein-Rubin, Renee Fabus, and their contributors recognize that clinical assessment is inextricably linked to report writing and have updated this Second Edition to synthesize the two. Following the introductory chapters, which discuss the basics of assessment and report writing, each subsequent chapter focuses on a particular disorder, provides in-depth assessment tools, and presents a corresponding sample report. Key Features:An inventory and explanation of formal and informal assessment measuresA glossary of key vocabularySample case histories with assessment toolsRelevant and useful interview questionsEach disorder’s background and characteristicsAssessment parametersA differential diagnosis sectionA model report The accessible format of A Guide to Clinical Assessment and Professional Report Writing in Speech-Language Pathology, Second Edition will help students learn how to assess and document speech and language disorders and will also make for a perfect reference for them as clinicians for years to come.

It affects the motor neurons which control the voluntary muscles. Some of the symptoms of this disease are muscle twitches, stiff muscles, difficulty in swallowing or speaking, and muscle wasting. The treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis involves improving the symptoms. Non-invasive ventilation and mechanical ventilation can be used to prolong life. Genetic and environmental factors can affect the chances of being affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. One of the characteristic features of this disease is the death of lower motor neurons and upper motor neurons. The genes which are considered to be behind amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are classified on the basis of their function into cytoskeleton, protein degradation and RNA processing. This book discusses the fundamentals as well as modern approaches of amytrophic lateral sclerosis. It will also provide interesting topics for research which interested readers can take up. This book will provide comprehensive knowledge to the readers.

It combines perspectives of museum educators, teacher preparation professors, art therapists, teaching artists, and older artists on what is meant by Creative Aging and the ways art education can support the health and well-being of this population. Most importantly, the book discusses what the field of art education can gain from older adult learners and creators.Chapters are organized into five sections: Creatively Aging, Meeting Older Adults’ Unique Needs, Intergenerational Art Education, Engaging Older Adults With Artworks and Objects, and In Our Own Voices: Older Adults as Learners, Makers, and Teachers. Within each section, contributors investigate themes critical to art education within aging populations such as memory loss, disability, coping with life transitions, lifelong learning, intergenerational relationships, and personal narrative. The final section focuses on accounts from older adult artists/educators, offering insights and proposing new directions for growing older creatively.Though ideal for art education faculty and students in graduate and undergraduate settings, as well as art education scholars and those teaching in multigenerational programs within community settings, this book is an expansive resource for any artist, student, or scholar interested in the links among health, well-being, and arts participation for older adults.

Now more than ever, there is a burgeoning need for speech-language pathologists to incorporate counseling into their everyday practice. However, most practitioners currently lack the training and knowledge necessary to fulfill that role. Counseling and Motivational Interviewing in Speech-Language Pathology seeks to remedy that by providing techniques and tools for counseling across the lifespan and practice settings. The book is divided into two main parts: • Chapters 1 through 4 cover the foundational principles of motivational interviewing, including several self-assessment tools to support learners in the process. • Chapters 5 through 8 address specific counseling techniques and topics, providing readers with practical examples of how to properly counsel individuals with communication, cognition, and swallowing disorders. What’s included in Counseling and Motivational Interviewing in Speech-Language Pathology: • Sample dialogues between clinicians and clients. • Case examples, thinking exercises, and potential assignments for readers to apply the knowledge and skills addressed in the book. • A chapter dedicated to communicatively accessible structured interview approaches, eliciting and monitoring collaborative goals, and screening for other mental health concerns.Counseling and Motivational Interviewing in Speech-Language Pathology is an approachable guide that will address the issues of scope of practice while proving why speech-language pathologists are uniquely suited to provide counseling.

Counseling in Communication Disorders: Facilitating the Therapeutic Relationship by Cyndi Stein-Rubin and Beryl T. Adler, is an engaging textbook, written in a genuine and lively tone, so that the reader may easily relate to the material. The text provides a practical vehicle for speech-language pathology students, clinicians, clinical supervisors, and instructors to get to know themselves better and to integrate basic counseling attitudes and tools into their diagnostic and therapeutic programs. Inside Counseling in Communication Disorders, Stein-Rubin and Adler describe the importance of addressing a client’s communication challenges by working with the whole person, as a human being, not as a communication disorder. By approaching clients with a counseling attitude that encourages the client’s full participation in the treatment process, we then work together in partnership and as a powerful team. The content, techniques, and exercises within Counseling in Communication Disorders are rooted in evidence-based practice from a variety of psychological, counseling, and coaching approaches, such as Humanistic Counseling, Listening and Language, Narrative Therapy, The Cognitive Behavioral Model (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Positive Psychology, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), and Mindfulness training.Counseling in Communication Disorders also includes reflective questions, exercises, and suggestions to reinforce important concepts. To bring the content to life, real-life and clinical scenarios are interspersed throughout the text.It is well understood that speech-language pathology and audiology clinicians must understand deep listening and how to choose words that will have a positive impact on their client and families, but often overlooked is the personal development of the clinicians themselves. Counseling in Communication Disorders is a comprehensive guide on how to provide the necessary support and encouragement to clients and build self-esteem, while a major focus is the need for the clinicians to work on self before working on other. Counseling in Communication Disorders: Facilitating the Therapeutic Relationship is the first textbook of its kind to comprehensively cover both sides of the therapeutic relationship. Students and clinicians alike will appreciate this unique approach that addresses not only the counseling attitude that is vital to the growth and progress of clients, but also the self-awareness that guides the personal development of the clinician.Included with the text are online supplemental materials for faculty use in the classroom.

Fluency Plus: Managing Fluency Disorders in Individuals with Multiple Diagnoses fills this much-needed gap, providing a strong research base along with practical strategies and treatment activities to guide speech-language pathologists in managing clients with fluency and concomitant disorders.Dr. Kathleen Scaler Scott brings her years of clinical experience and her research in the areas of stuttering, cluttering and atypical disfluencies to Fluency Plus, designing it to act as both a textbook for students and a practical guide for the clinician. The comprehensive review of current definitions of fluency disorders and the evidence base for treatments will be of great help to students, while clinicians will appreciate the specific guidelines, strategies, and activities for managing fluency in concomitant disorders. After reviewing general principles and covering how executive functions relate to the management of these multiple concerns, the text addresses seven concomitant disorder areas the speech-language pathologist may encounter in practice. For each disorder category, an overview of potential fluency problems is provided, myths regarding treatment of fluency disorders in each population are debunked, and effective treatment activities are recommended. Some Concomitant Disorders Covered: Intellectual DisabilitySpeech Sound Disorders (apraxia, phonological, articulation disorders)Learning Disabilities, Auditory Processing and Language DisordersAttention Deficit Hyperactivity DisorderAutism Spectrum DisorderSelective MutismFluency Plus: Managing Fluency Disorders in Individuals with Multiple Diagnoses helps close an education and training gap for students and clinicians alike by increasing their confidence, knowledge, and skills when dealing with fluency disorders and complex combinations of concomitant disorders.

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and All Your Perfects, a ＂brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn’t let go, long after you’ve finished it＂ (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author) about a workaholic with a too-good-to-be-true romance can’t stop thinking about her first love--soon to be a major motion picture.Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up--she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his ＂no dating＂ rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan--her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. An honest, evocative, and tender novel, It Ends with Us is ＂a glorious and touching read, a forever keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down＂ (USA TODAY).

Rival physicists collide in a vortex of academic feuds and fake dating shenanigans in this delightfully STEMinist romcom from the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain. The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she's an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs. Honestly, it's a pretty sweet gig--until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down. Because Jack Smith, the annoyingly attractive and arrogant older brother of her favorite client, turns out to be the cold-hearted experimental physicist who ruined her mentor's career and undermined the reputation of theorists everywhere. And he's the same Jack Smith who rules over the physics department at MIT, standing right between Elsie and her dream job. Elsie is prepared for an all-out war of scholarly sabotage but...those long, penetrating looks? Not having to be anything other than her true self when she's with him? Will falling into an experimentalist's orbit finally tempt her to put her most guarded theories on love into practice?

The text sets out the impact of mentoring at each stage of the speech and language therapist’s career – students, novice practitioners, and leaders – and explores how mentoring is distinct from other supportive relationships that are available, such as counselling, coaching line management, and education. The reader is guided through the process of finding a mentor and making the most of the mentoring relationship. The book goes on to outline what makes a good mentor and concludes with a vision and call to action for the profession to embrace mentoring more widely, with particular focus on creating a more inclusive professional community. Each section concludes with a space for reflection and action planning to guide the reader through their own journey of understanding how to use mentoring to unlock their own professional development needs. This resource is relevant for all speech and language therapists: those embarking on a new career in speech and language therapy, those needing guidance at a career crossroads, leaders looking to develop a workforce, and those wishing to diversify their communication skills to support their colleagues.

"Strikingly original . . . A historian whose arguments operate on the scale of millennia has managed to capture the zeitgeist perfectly."--The Economist "This deeply important book comes at a critical time as we all think through the implications of AI and automated content production. . . . Masterful and provocative."--Mustafa Suleyman, author of The Coming Wave For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite all our discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. The world is on the verge of ecological collapse. Misinformation abounds. And we are rushing headlong into the age of AI--a new information network that threatens to annihilate us. For all that we have accomplished, why are we so self-destructive? Nexus looks through the long lens of human history to consider how the flow of information has shaped us, and our world. Taking us from the Stone Age, through the canonization of the Bible, early modern witch-hunts, Stalinism, Nazism, and the resurgence of populism today, Yuval Noah Harari asks us to consider the complex relationship between information and truth, bureaucracy and mythology, wisdom and power. He explores how different societies and political systems throughout history have wielded information to achieve their goals, for good and ill. And he addresses the urgent choices we face as non-human intelligence threatens our very existence. Information is not the raw material of truth; neither is it a mere weapon. Nexus explores the hopeful middle ground between these extremes, and in doing so, rediscovers our shared humanity.

Handsome, charismatic, genius--his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse. Heads of family, state, and other handlers devise a plan for damage control: staging a truce between the two rivals. What at first begins as a fake, Instragramable friendship grows deeper, and more dangerous, than either Alex or Henry could have imagined. Soon Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret romance with a surprisingly unstuffy Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. Can love save the world after all? Where do we find the courage, and the power, to be the people we are meant to be? And how can we learn to let our true colors shine through? Casey McQuiston's Red, White & Royal Blue proves: true love isn't always diplomatic. "I took this with me wherever I went and stole every second I had to read! Absorbing, hilarious, tender, sexy--this book had everything I crave. I'm jealous of all the readers out there who still get to experience Red, White & Royal Blue for the first time!" - Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners "Red, White & Royal Blue is outrageously fun. When Solène Marchand, the thirty-nine-year-old owner of a prestigious art gallery in Los Angeles, takes her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band, she does so reluctantly and at her ex-husband’s request. The last thing she expects is to make a connection with one of the members of the world-famous August Moon. But Hayes Campbell is clever, winning, confident, and posh, and the attraction is immediate. That he is all of twenty years old further complicates things. What begins as a series of clandestine trysts quickly evolves into a passionate relationship. It is a journey that spans continents as Solène and Hayes navigate each other’s disparate worlds: from stadium tours to international art fairs to secluded hideaways in Paris and Miami. And for Solène, it is as much a reclaiming of self, as it is a rediscovery of happiness and love. When their romance becomes a viral sensation, and both she and her daughter become the target of rabid fans and an insatiable media, Solène must face how her new status has impacted not only her life, but the lives of those closest to her.

It looks at the various treatments available, exposing those ‘quack’ remedies that are unlikely to work and may make things worse. Then goes on to describe new treatments with proven successful outcomes. Today it can be read in its historical context. This book is a re-issue originally published in 1931. In an era where the therapist is now more of a public-facing entity than ever before, developing a sense of who one is both inside and outside of the consulting room is a complex undertaking. In response, London reconceptualises the therapist's identity in a contemporary way, transcending preconceived labels, by bringing an understanding of performance art into an analysis of psychotherapeutic practice. Through this interdisciplinary approach, London attends to the complex questions faced by psychoanalysts and psychotherapists in training and in practice: can a therapist perform and be authentic? Can a therapist perform and have true intimate relationships within the confines of that performance? And can a therapist perform as themselves? This provocative and highly original work will provide both new and experienced psychotherapists with an understanding of the clinical and philosophical significance of performance art to cultivating therapeutic identity.

But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now? Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband, David, has left her, and her career has stagnated. Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career. Summoned to Evelyn’s Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn’s life unfolds through the decades—revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love—Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn’s story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways. Filled with emotional insight and written with Reid’s signature talent for “creating complex, likable characters” (Real Simple), this is a fascinating journey through the splendor of Old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means—and what it takes—to face the truth.

It is designed to be easy to use, with movable elements that adapt to a child’s progress from short‑ to long‑term milestones and goals.
